To the woman who taught me there is more to life.

Before I was told this information, I was in the middle of a blog about someone who is a role model and what an inspiration she is. Then I got news that she is leaving and I couldn’t finish the blog. I am happy for her yet feeling selfish and wanting her to stay cause it would be hard for me for her to leave. But then I started thinking of things she has taught me throughout the last 4 1/2 ( more like year ) we’ve been together.

This one is for you Ashley…

Things Ashley has taught me:

1.) BE JOYFUL.

“Almost anything can be joyful. It’s a matter of your point of view.”

Always think positive and whatever you are doing, volunteer work, school work, projects, spending time with family, do it with a joyful attitude.

2.) LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.” -Charles Dickens

Whether you are having the best day or worst day of your life, laughter will bring up your happy mood. According to science “Your brain needs to encourage you to update your incorrect ideas about the world and, like giving a dog a treat, it rewards you with a burst of pleasure. Instead of a biscuit, you get a shot of dopamine.”

3.) MOTHER MARY IS DA BOMB

“Love our Lady and she will obtain abundant grace to help you conquer in your daily struggles.” -St. Josemaria Escriva

If you have a relationship with Momma Mary you are IN! It’s one of the most important relationships you can have other than having one with the Big Man. Have such a relationship with Momma Mary that you seat belt a statue of her in the passenger seat of your car 😉

4.) YOU’RE NEVER TOO OLD FOR DISNEY

“Who says we have to grow up?” -Walt Disney

No matter how old you are, 20, 50,98, you are NEVER too old to watch Disney movies, go to Disney world and ride the rollercoasters, and meet all the Disney princesses. You are never too old to release your inner-child.

5.) DANCE AS IF NO ONE IS WATCHING

“Dancing with the feet is one thing, but dancing with heart is another.”

The sight after a Middle School Youth Group while having a dance party, Ashley just dancing her heart away. It inspires me to not care what others think it also gives me tremendous amounts of joy.

6.) RELY ON THE LORD

“Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.” -C.S. Lewis

This one was a hard one, and continues to be hard, to grasp. We don’t know our future, but He does. Since He is the only one who knows everything, it would only make sense to rely on the One who knows, right? Right, but it’s easier said than done. But if everyday we strive to rely on The Lord and not on ourselves, it will get easier!

And finally

7.) IT WILL GET BETTER

Ashley would tell me this over and over again. I never listened to her, like at all. I was ( sometimes still am ) so stubborn. But within the past year I took her advice and I can finally see it.
Thank you Ashley for your kind words, affirmative attitude, tremendous youth ministry skills, and for always having work for me to do. Thank you for being a role model, a sister, and a friend to not only me but to a ton of teens and young adults at STM. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see ya later. Thanks, friend.
